“You’re not still sleepy boy. I bet you’ve never been up this early before. See that moon; he’s been up all night. He’ll be in bed though, soon as the sun comes
up. You don’t want to go back to bed do
you son? No, you want to go fishing with
daddy. That’s a loon singing. A loon has two songs; one when he’s lonely and
one when he wants to be alone. Old Mr.
Loon is telling us to get off his lake. I
guess he wants to be alone this morning. Okay, hand me your pole and tackle box, I’ll
put them in the boat. Now hold my hand
and step on the seat first. I don’t want
you to fall in the lake. Here, sit on
this cushion; the seat is all wet and cold. Mom should have given you a warmer jacket,
maybe even mittens. I brought some hot
chocolate. That should warm you up. We’ll have some when we stop. Let me check your life jacket; it looks like
it’s come undone. This motor sure is
loud; hope it doesn’t scare away the fish. Our secret spot isn’t too far; only about ten
minutes. You feel that spray on your
face. The lake is still cold; makes for
good fishing. It will look less creepy
after the sun burns off all that mist. This
is about the right spot. I’ll shut off
the motor and drop the anchor. Sun will
be coming up just over those trees. It’s
going to be a nice day boy. Hope we
catch a lot of big ones. Here, let me
set up your pole. We’ll start with worms,
Okay. Toss your line in like I showed you. Wow, great job, you got it way out there. Now watch your bobber and I’ll get the hot chocolate. That should warm you up. You’ve been pretty quit this morning boy,
letting your old man do all the taking.
Are you having fun yet?” “Dad?” “What
is it son?” “I have to pee.” “Oh, okay, you bring in your line and I’ll pull up
the anchor. Okay son.”
